TECHNOLOGY, ART and COLLABORATION

This short video reminds us of the importance of creativity yet disregards technology as a means for creative expression. I disagree. Technology can open our world to new possibilities. A variety of links and ideas are below for ways to bring creativity, art and technology together. Through a constructivist approach.

COLLABORATIVE ART

Below are a few examples of great sites that support holistic learning. Each site has the potential to allow for collaborative learning and student ownership that is authentic. Demonstrating inclusion and community connections.

Google Art Project

Google Art Project is an amazing project. It allows the viewer to explore galleries around the world without having to take a field trip. Students can explore galleries and create their own. It is a great way to introduce art from around the world and zoom in to each piece to expore brushstrokes and artistic processes.

Using in the classroom: students can create their own (or as a group) gallery of famous works and explore works of art up close to influence their own work.

Artsteps

Artsteps is a virtual reality gallery. Where it differs from the Google Art Project is that the works of art can be chosen by the author. I've used this to create online galleries of my student's work. Students could also create their own gallery show of their work, partner work, etc. You place works on the wall and, when done, can "walk" around the gallery to see the works.

Using in the classroom: students/teachers can create a gallery of their own artwork to visually walk around.

Flockdraw is a newer site that I've explored. It allows up to 10 people to create a collaborative drawing. You can work together to create a drawing similar to how one would use SumoPaint or Paint on your computer.

Using in the classroom: have small groups work on a project together. It might be helpful to have an inspiration point to help the creativity flow. Holistic education supports authentic exploration and this would be a great way to open up creative flow and student capabilities.
